How much is a gorilla permit?
Uganda Gorilla Trekking Permit fees for foreign non-residents are: US$800 per person during the high season: January, February, June, July, August, September, and December. US$600 per person during the low season: March, April, May, October, and November. Each permit includes one unforgettable hour with a habituated mountain gorilla family in either Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, accompanied by experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. Gorilla permits are limited and are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. We strongly recommend booking several months in advance, especially during the high season, as permits often sell out quickly. Most international visitors require a visa to enter Uganda. The easiest option is to apply online before your trip using the official Uganda e-Visa system. If you plan to visit both Uganda and Rwanda or Kenya, you may qualify for the East Africa Tourist Visa, which allows travel between the participating countries with a single visa. Can children trek gorillas?
Uganda Wildlife Authority regulations require all gorilla trekkers to be at least 15 years old on the day of trekking. This rule helps protect both visitors and the endangered mountain gorillas while ensuring participants are physically prepared for the hike. Families travelling with younger children can still enjoy many other exciting activities, including game drives, boat safaris, nature walks, cultural experiences, and chimpanzee viewing (subject to age requirements).
Malaria is present in Uganda, but the risk can be greatly reduced with proper precautions. We recommend consulting your doctor before travel about suitable anti-malarial medication. Wearing long sleeves in the evenings, using insect repellent, and sleeping under mosquito nets where provided are effective ways to reduce mosquito bites. Most safari lodges take excellent measures to protect guests from mosquitoes.
Can vegetarians be catered for?
